Hasan Minhaj's Netflix Comedy Special "Homecoming King" earns a Peabody award
Hasan Minhaj has proven he's a force to be reckoned with. He has us cracking up on the Daily Show, he kicked ass hosting last year's White House Correspondents dinner and we absolutely loved his Netflix comedy special Homecoming King. In his insanely relatable special, he shared hilarious and at times heartbreaking anecdotal stories about racism, religion, love, growing up with immigrant parents and the overall trials and tribulations of being a brown kid just trying to fit in. This brilliant special just earned Minhaj his first Peabody Award! We're so proud of our brown bother's prestigious accomplishment!
The annual awards from the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia “honor the most powerful, enlightening and invigorating stories in television, radio and digital media.” The Peabody Awards board of jurors described Homecoming King as "a deeply personal memoir — part Richard Pryor, part Spaulding Gray — that covers the struggles of the immigrant experience, encounters with stereotypes and raced expectations, and intergenerational acceptance, while using comedy to invite empathy, caring, and understanding."
Minhaj is getting ready to produce and host his own 32-episode weekly talk show on Netflix. This will make him the first Indian American to front a show on the streaming site! We cannot wait for this series to air and continue to look forward to more amazing content from this talented artist!
