Brown King, Imran Majid named Co-Head of A&R at Columbia
Back in 2016, Imran Majid and Justin Eshak were named Senior Vice President of A&R at Columbia Records stepping up from Vice President of A&R at the label. Flash forward to 2018 and the label announced the joint promotion of Majid and Eshak to Executive VP/Co-Heads of A&R. The pair will work out of Columbia's New York office and report to Columbia's chairman and CEO Ron Perry.
Of the promotions, Perry said: "Justin and Imran have proven to be innovative executives with a united vision. I’m confident they’ll frame an A&R culture built on breakthrough artists who can propel Columbia’s great legacy into the future."
In 2013, Majid joined Columbia and has overseen such artists as Russ and Ayo & Teo. He also signed Rachel Platten in 2015, whose hit "Fight Song” has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide.
"I want to thank Ron Perry for this incredible honor and entrusting Justin and me to oversee one of the most coveted positions in the entire business," Majid said. "We have been fortunate to foster new talent in a company where artists can push creative boundaries with the support of the most forward thinking staff."
We're so excited to see our brown brother in a decision making position! We are seeing the entertainment industry shift day by day and hopefully we see more light on Indian American artist in the future.
