Utkarsh Ambudkar and Janina Gavankar cover “500 Miles”

Utkarsh Ambudkar (Mindy Project & Pitch Perfect) and Janina Gavankar (True Blood & The L Word) have teamed up to record a rendition of 500 Miles by The Proclaimers!

Utkarsh and Janina have been friends for over 10 years. They first met when Utkarsh was a VJ for MTV DESI where he interviewed her while she was starring on The L Word. The pair reconnected in Los Angeles when Janina was a guest on Utkarsh’s podcast, Let’s Talk About Me, Baby.

So what made the duo pick 500 Miles to cover? Utkarsh tells Hello Giggles, “I wanted to look at a song that we all know and love with a new set of eyes and ears.” Janina produced the song and Davy Greenberg directed the music video.

Hello Giggles reports, "They first performed “500 Miles” at a concert in Park City in support of their film Blindspotting, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival and was bought by Lionsgate. They changed the lyrics of “500 Miles” to reflect where they are in their own lives, and the response to the song’s simple arrangement and honest delivery was so positive that they decided to make a studio recording and shoot a video in the span of two days."

We love it when our brown brothers and sisters create art! We love it even more when they create it together and support each other!!! It’s so great seeing Utkarsh and Janina working on this track and music video!

You can catch Utkarsh in Basmati Blues alongside Brie Larsson opening in theatres tomorrow and Janina can be seen starring in Star Wars Battlefront II.
