We're so excited to be getting new music from singer/songwriter, Daya! The Punjabi-American artist teased music late last year stating, “It explores different parts of my voice and sounds, and [it’s] definitely the most real body of work I’ve put out to date and the most definitive of me.” Daya just dropped her new single — Insomnia
In a new interview with Paper, Daya revealed that the song is not only about her new love interest; it turns out she really is having a hard time catching z’s. “For one thing, I actually have been dealing with some serious sleep issues from touring and everything,” she said. “It's just hard because you have to get up at 4 a.m. to catch a flight to wherever, then one night your show doesn't end until 2 a.m., so your body has to be conditioned to be prepared for anything. I've rarely fallen asleep for a comfortable eight hours REM sleep.”
The singer also added that the song’s trance music roots are intended to simulate an all-night party and give the song a third meaning. “I also wanted to take it in a rave direction,” she said. “For some reason I'm always the last person to leave every party. Like I'm not always going out, but when I do, I go in.”
