Brown Queen, Samhita Mukhopadhyay named Executive Editor at Teen Vogue

February 6, 2018

Samhita Mukhopadhyay has been named Teen Vogue’s Executive Editor!!! Mukhopadhyay is a writer, editor, speaker and digital strategist.  She’s co-editor of the best-selling anthology Nasty Women: Feminism, Resistance and Revolution in Trump’s America and the author of Outdated: Why Dating is Ruining Your Love Life. She joins the Condé Nast group with an impressive resume. She was former Executive Editor of award-winning blog Feministing and former Senior Editorial Director of Culture and Identities at Millennial digital news site Mic  where she covered The Movement for Black Lives, Islamophobia, Trans issues, Sexual assault on college campuses and Standing Rock.

In recent years Teen Vogue has started to tackle more socially progressive and political issues.  Mukhopadhyay's experience and passion for "feminism, politics, culture, technology, existential dating dilemmas and racial justice” makes her the perfect fit for the direction the magazine continues to head in.

“I have admired Samhita’s work from afar for quite some time. I deeply respect her ability to tackle complex topics and distill them in a sensible way for a young, engaged, and conscientious audience,” said chief content officer Phillip Picardi. “After getting to know Samhita through this process, I am confident that her experience as an editor and a leader is exactly what we need to further propel Teen Vogue into the future.”

“I am deeply impressed with Teen Vogue’s coverage of the most important issues impacting young women’s lives today, as well as with Phill’s leadership,” Mukhopadhyay said. “I am honored and excited to help lead this vibrant and inspired team to expand and deepen their coverage on everything from body positivity, fashion, pop culture, Black Lives Matter, college sexual assault, and more.”

Growing up even the thought of having a South Asian in a leadership role in a prestigious fashion magazine like Vogue was non-existent. We’re so proud and excited for Mukhopadhyay’s new role!!! Diversity and representation matter!!!
